Oral Cancer Screening

A thorough examination of the head/neck/mouth for oral cancer.  Dr. Eric Hogan will thoroughly palpate (feel) the tissues in your head and neck as well as examine and palpate tissues within your mouth.  We take this exam very seriously because statistics show that close to 45,750 Americans will be diagnosed with oral or pharyngeal (cancer of the pharynx) in 2016.

Periodontal Evaluation

Evaluation of your teeth and gums for gum disease.  Periodontal (gum disease) is a leading cause of tooth loss and a thorough examination of the tissues that support the teeth are the only way to accurately diagnose gum disease.

Dental Evaluation

Evaluation of your mouth for cavities.  Dr. Eric Hogan utilizes many different diagnostic methods to diagnose cavities.  He evaluates the color of the tooth with 5x the magnification of a naked eye.  He reviews dental radiographs to detect cavities in between the teeth and also uses dental instruments to feel for a cavity on your tooth.

Oral Tissue Evaluation

Evaluation for fungal and yeast infections.  Yes, unfortunately these two microorganisms exist in your mouth.  Illness, immunocompromised patients, medication use, and poor oral hygiene can cause these microorganisms to increase leading to uncomfortable oral infections.  Dr. Eric Hogan is trained to identify these infections and can prescribe medications to treat your oral conditions.

Occlusal Evaluation

Evaluation of your muscles, teeth and joints for signs of grinding (bruxism) and clenching as well as Temperomandibular Dysfunction (TMD).  Dr. Eric Hogan has taken many advanced courses on the Temperomandibular Joint (TMJ) and TMD.  He has treated many patients with symptoms associated with jaw dysfunction and can detect if you have signs or symptoms of this debilitating condition.

Blood Pressure & Pulse Screening

We provide a blood pressure and pulse screening on every patient.  If your blood pressure and/or pulse are elevated we will refer you to your preferred local provider for a follow up evaluation.

Prescription Review

We will thoroughly review your medications.  Some prescriptions can cause xerostomia (dry mouth) which frequently leads to an increased incidence of dental cavities.  In addition, antidepressants and antipsychotics can lead to an increased incidence of bruxing (grinding and clenching) ***Hyperlink within site to new Occlusal Disease Page****

Many of our patients who see us for the first time frequently comment that we provide the most thorough exam they have ever experienced.  We are very proud of the fact that our patients notice the quality of care we provide.

I love everyone at Hogan Family Dental. I always have as much fun as you can have at the dentist. Honestly, though...you have been amazing and helped me fix all of my problems!!! -Mary H, Circle, MT

Dental Hygiene Appointments

If you are being seen at our office for a dental hygiene appointment, you can expect that your dental hygienist will perform the following treatments.

Blood Pressure and Pulse Screening

We provide a blood pressure and pulse screening on every patient.  If your blood pressure and/or pulse are elevated we will refer you to your preferred local provider for a follow up evaluation.

Teeth Cleaning

Your teeth will be professionally cleaned to efficiently remove all plaque and calculus buildup on your tooth surfaces.  We use a variety of instruments to offer the highest quality of care possible.  If you prefer a specific method of treatment, please feel free to share your preferences.  We are always concerned with your comfort.

Digital Radiographs

Dental radiographs will be taken and evaluated digitally; minimizing wait times and giving ultra-clear images for Dr. Eric Hogan to review.

Recommendations

Oral hygiene recommendations will be made based on our findings during your dental hygiene visit.  These recommendations from our dental hygienists will include follow-up care for both at home and in our office to optimize your oral health.

Fluoride Treatment (optional)

Fluoride will be professionally applied if needed or requested.  We utilize a fluoride varnish at our office which has the greatest penetration time for ultimate absorption.  It will be absorbed into your enamel over a period of twelve hours and will strengthen your smooth tooth surfaces.  We recommend any individual who has a high cavity rate to benefit from this service on a regular basis.  Fluoride is commonly recommended to children through the age of 13 and adults who have difficulty removing food material/plaque regularly and for those that have xerostomia.

Dental Hygiene Experience

We have five dental hygienists who meet the oral hygiene needs of our dental patients.  Our dental hygienists have combined experience of 69 years serving patients and are committed to excellent oral health for our community.
