Serving Miles City, Baker, Brodus, Circle, Forsyth, Glendive and Surrounding Areas

Dr. Eric Hogan provides a full range of oral surgery procedures in our Miles City office. Our clinical team is ready to help if you or a family member are in need of simple or complex wisdom teeth extractions. More complex surgeries are regularly performed, including sinus lifts, bone grafting, surgical implant placement, frenectomies, and biopsies. At Hogan Family Dental you can expect gentle treatment, expert care and personal follow up.

Implant Surgery

Dental implants are one of the most natural ways to replace a missing tooth or multiple teeth. Surgeries are performed in our surgical suite using local anesthetic, with or without nitrous oxide. Patients frequently return to their normal tasks immediately after the surgery. Once the implant surgery is complete, a temporary restoration may be placed. A healing period is necessary for the bone to integrate around the newly placed implant. After this, your designed restoration is secured in place.

Wisdom Teeth Extractions

Wisdom teeth (third molar) extractions are recommended when there is insufficient space in the jaw bone to accommodate eruption. Dr. Eric Hogan may also recommend a wisdom tooth be extracted if it has a large, non-restorable cavity, a dental abscess, or is causing discomfort.

Extraction Prep for Dentures

Multiple extractions are performed when a patient has decided to proceed with dentures after a detailed discussion with Dr. Eric Hogan or Dr. Robin Hogan. Immediate dentures will be placed the day of the surgery so that you do not need to be without your teeth. Once the healing process is complete, feel free to discuss the option of implant-retained dentures with your dentist to optimize the fit and function of your immediate denture.

Sinus Lift

The sinus lift procedure is a predictable way to reposition the sinus floor to allow room for the placement of an implant or implants. When teeth have been missing in the upper jaw for an extended time, or have been lost due to infection or pathology, the bone erodes and the sinuses enlarge to occupy the available space. A sinus lift returns the sinus to its original position and creates sufficient bone structure for the placement of a dental implant.

Bone Grafting

A bone graft may be required prior to dental implant surgery. In the absence of tooth roots, the jaw will decrease in bone mass, but Dr. Eric Hogan is well versed in several ways to rebuild lost structure to create a sufficient site for implant placement. A period of healing is required afterward. If only a minor bone graft is required, this can be performed at the same time as implant surgery.

Scalpel-Free Frenectomy

During growth and development, sometimes extra tissue is present where the lips and tongue attach to the gingiva (gums). This extra tissue can create difficulties with speech, latching (attachment to the breast for nursing babies), sucking, or swallowing. The extra band of tissue, or frenum, can be surgically removed with a dental laser. Advantages of a laser frenectomy include:

  • minimal local anesthetic
  • minimal postoperative care
  • reduced bleeding
  • more rapid healing
  • scalpel-free surgery
